After years of crummy re-issues from video companies, Invasion USA finally receives the respect it deserves with a magnificent original DVD “Atomic” edition from Synapse Films and Conelrad (a website devoted to Atomic Culture that, apparently, helped with the special features) .

The movie itself is a laugh riot and the print is extraordinary (finally I can freezeframe the huge Gerald Mohr with crystal clarity), but it is the special features that compose this disc a must select.

Where else is one going to catch the following on fair one DVD: Civil Defense (Apprehension) Report albums playing as an alternate audio track. This is a nice alternative to self-absorbed actors and directors talking about their current shots in a film or what lunch they had on any given day of shooting. The classic 1962 Jack Webb short “Red Nightmare” (in a titanic unusual print) . The Conelrad 100 (a play on the AFI 100? ), an “encyclopedia” of the best “Atomic” Films ever made. This is a colossal feature and humorously written. If you’re like me, you’ll fetch yourself reading all 100! Cast interviews with the surviving stars of the film: While this part is a diminutive rough around the edges, you have to adore the dedication of the producers to round of these aging actors tfor one last comment on Invasion USA. Noel Neill is hilarious (she snipes at the other Lois Lane and compares Invasion USA to Pearl Harbor–the movie!) . Dan O’Herlihy is also a riot reading a Current York Times pan of Invasion USA that gets his name misspelled!) .

All in all a grand package. If you are the least bit iterested in campy films or the Chilly War, you MUST contain this DVD!

Invasion USA is essentially the grand-daddy of all nuclear war movies, a worthy film released in 1953 that almost certainly proved gross to movie audiences of that era. Nowadays, the film exudes an aura of campiness and, depending on one’s political viewpoint, draws either laughs or respect (and sometimes both) . Invasion USA is definitely a Wintry Warriors movie, an unforgettable share of cinematic propaganda that turned its spotlights clearly on the threat of the Red menace. Making liberal spend of stock footage from World War II, this movie not only offers a vision of Communist invasion but explains why such an invasion might succeed, thus rallying the American people not to retreat into post-war isolationism and materialism. The notice of freedom is eternal vigilance, and this is the message Invasion USA conveyed rather impressively.

I happen to mediate this movie is smart. I was born in 1970, and I knew the horror of nuclear war as a child. For those living in the 1950s, the fright of nuclear was an even more pervasive threat - as was Communism. I peaceful abominate Communism with every fiber of my being, and for me personally the Frosty War will not extinguish until the number of Communists in the world falls all the intention to zero. The generation coming of age today does not truly know the gnawingly pervasive threat of intercontinental nuclear war nor do today’s youth remember a world in which the USSR not only existed but cast dusky shadows across many parts of the world. To many today, the Red Apprehension conjures up droll images of a fanatical Joseph McCarthy and the John Birch Society looking for Communists under rocks and park benches. Invasion USA will thus strike many viewers today as rather humorous, but I regard this as, to some degree, an educational film that offers an insightful eye into the American mind of the 1950s. Certainly, the characters are rather two-dimensional, the dialogue is unintentionally amusing on several occasions, and the ending is likely to form a few groans among new audiences, but the film’s theme and message is not only historically informative but tranquil, in the broadest sense, relevant and instructive.

The setup and “kicker” site twist at the extinguish may well leave one with a terrible taste in his/her mouth initially, but Invasion USA is smooth friendly of resonating over time in the minds of those who notice it. It is really an novel film in more ways than one. Not only does it offer a hideous vision of America subjugated by an unnamed yet ruthless and easily identifiable enemy, it assigns the blame for this possible future defeat on a populace of men and women too concerned with their contain lives and desires to seek out for the interests of the nation. One of the characters in the film, for example, is a wealthy tractor manufacturer who fair turned down a government demand to execute needed military tanks, putting profit above patriotism. Complacency and the voluntary wearing of blinders among a population sick of world wars is shown to be the weakest link in America’s contemporary defense. Everybody complains about taxes, concentrates solely on their contain needs, and goes about his/her life pretending that America could never possibly be attacked - script writer Robert Smith clearly communicated the hazardous vulnerability implicit in such a worldview. Invasion USA is a clarion call to a prosperous people courting distress by avoiding a homely truth. The film was amazingly effective in delivering this crucial and timely warning to its audience. The same message applies in our contain world; while the threat comes from a different source, only a vigilant and cooperative attitude among the American people can safeguard our freedoms from those who wish to end us.

Clearly, Invasion USA was a success, one which soon led to similar films built around the horrifying threat of nuclear war. The movie earned more than one million dollars - not too shabby for a film shot in the course of only seven days on a budget of one hundred twenty seven thousand dollars. Stock footage from World War II makes up some 30% of the film. Fictional news broadcasts explaining the progress (or, more correctly, lack of progress) in the war leave room for only so powerful sincere human interaction and dialogue - this is perhaps fortunate, as the characters are less than tantalizing in and of themselves. Quiet, there is enough of a personal dimension to the tragedy unleashed on film to really bring Invasion USA’s message across to the sympathetic viewer. It’s impossible not to laugh at parts of this movie all these decades later, but there is an eternally important message - exaggerated as it may be - here that all freedom-loving men and women would do well to ponder over.

Since 1926, “Winnie-the-Pooh” has been a staple in American pop culture as a family fine character and stories that many children for generations have grown up with. And adults who have continued to portion that with their gain children.

With the holiday season coming up soon, the 10th Anniversary Edition of the third direct-to-video Winnie the Pooh absorbing feature “Seasons of Giving” from 1999 is re-released on DVD (note: the new DVD was released wait on in 2003) and comes with a mini Christmas stocking.

This feature revolves around Pooh, Piglet, Tigger, Rabbit and friends celebrating Thanksgiving, Christmas and the winter season!

“Seasons of Giving” is broken down into several arcs. The first arc is “Groundpiglet Day” (from “The Modern Adventures of Winnie the Pooh”) as Rabbit and the group reflect the day is February 2nd, Groundhog Day (when actually, the calendar hasn’t been changed) and thus they feel as they missed out on Thanksgiving and Christmas. So, in order to salvage out if there will be a cool front, they glimpse at Piglet to be a groundhog and resolve if Spring is coming soon.

The second arc features Winnie the Pooh piquant Christopher Robbin to join the group at Hundred Acre Wood and hoping for a fabulous Thanksgiving. This segment is from an accurate special.

The third arc features the group celebrating Christmas and Rabbit receiving a Christmas card from Kessie, a blue bird that rabbit rescued years ago. With Roo wondering who is Kessie is, Rabbit tells his chronicle of how he met Tessie (replaying the cartoon “Procure her, Maintain Her” from “The Fresh Adventures of Winnie the Pooh”) .

VIDEO & AUDIO:

Video is featured in Widescreen (1:33:1) and for the most fragment, animation differs at times as some animation is from the TV series, another from a special. For the most fraction, the animation is from 1999 and the transfer shows its age a itsy-bitsy and there are some dust and scratches on “groundpiglet day” while “A Winnie the Pooh Thanksgiving” features a more cleaner animation. And for the Christmas episode, the animation seems remarkable more cleaner and vibrant but when Rabbit reminiscences of Tessie, then it goes befriend to older animation. You can thunder which is the older animation as Rabbit is greyish, while in the newer animation he is yellow.

As for audio, audio is presented in Dolby Digital Surround Sound and is featured in English, French and Spanish language tracks. Audio is dialogue and music driven and for the most section is positive and understandable. For home theater owners, I felt that the best setting was to have audio area at stereo on all channels.

Subtitles are in English SDH, French and Spanish.

SPECIAL FEATURES:

“Winnie the Pooh - Seasons of Giving: 10th Anniversary Edition” comes with a petite Christmas stocking included in the slipcase. As for special features, the following is included:

JUDGMENT CALL:

* The Unique Adventures of Winnie the Pooh - Magic Earmuffs - (11:09) Piglet doesn’t rob allotment in the winter games because he feels he can’t skate. But when Christopher Robbin gives him his ear muffs, Piglet thinks he can now ice skate.

* The Unusual Adventures of Winnie the Pooh - The Wishing Contain - (22:42) Christopher Robbin teaches Winnie the Pooh how to wish upon a star. When he does…he believes his wish to bag honey comes factual. Now, he wants to bid the others how to wish but unfortunately, it seems Pooh has forgotten what Christopher had taught him.

* Decorate Your Contain Christmas Tree - Using your remote, you can decorate different Christmas trees

* Coloring with Piglet - Using your remote, you can play a game of memorization and try to color up to three pictures with the accurate color.

Just in time for the holidays, “Winnie the Pooh: Seasons of Giving” is released on DVD. I have beautiful considerable grown up with “Winnie the Pooh” and the Christmas shows have always been a yearly ritual of watching and to say the least, my VHS tape is no longer watchable and with a six-year-old, I have been waiting for a DVD release of this title.

If there was one thing that may be difficult for some people is the different styles of animation between the segments from the bewitching television series “The Modern Adventures of Winnie the Pooh” and the special. As you go from not so beneficial narrate quality, to very salubrious describe quality, to even better characterize quality and aid to not so superb record quality. In other words, newer animation versus older animation, you derive a mix of both.

So, for those who are looking for the quality of an animation such as “Pooh’s Heffalump Halloween” (released in 2005, re-released this month) which has cleaner animation, your not going to gain that consistency as the TV episodes from 1999 are mixed with the special.

With that being said, despite the animation inconsistency, the only one who will probably be bothered are mostly the adults. Frankly, children are probably not going to balk at it and for the most fraction, this is a family feature that will entertain the kids during the holiday season.

Overall, my six-year-old son enjoyed watching this feature and I can imagine that it’s lighthearted, fun and heartwarming stories will also entertain other children as well. Also, you procure two more cartoons as from “The Novel Adventures of Winnie the Pooh” included on this DVD, two interactive games plus a mini-Christmas stocking. So, overall…this is a solid release.

For its rude trace and for its holiday entertainment factor, “Winnie the Pooh - Seasons of Giving: 10th Anniversary Edition” is definitely recommended!

This masterpiece grabs you from the get-go and doesn’t let up! Glimpse carefully, for the first two minutes of the opening scene portray the uncomfortable recurring pattern of Cabiria’s life: sheer happiness followed by tearful sorrow. Fellini’s masterful come to the tale of Cabiria, a plain-Jane older prostitute in 1950’s Rome, is not only artful but insightful. Surprisingly, you savor this character from the moment you meet her and you can’t attend but wish her the best. You personally section in her disappointments, some greater than others, and Cabiria displays a powerful level of resilience in the face of it all. Unprejudiced when you begin thinking that things may be going well for her, Squawk!, Fellini drops the bomb that blows everything to bits. The ending is one of such heartbreaking sadness that, I guarantee, will finish with you forever. Even weeks after first seeing this film, dear Cabiria is mild on my mind and I wonder every so often what happened to her after the movie ended.

From a technical aspect, the Criterion release is outstanding. The visual restoration of this film is fantastic. There is a feature that shows how the film was restored, and it’s captivating to peep how the print went from unlit and almost impossible to peruse to positive and sparkling. The subtitles have been newly translated to a more new English. There is an optional English-dubbed soundtrack which is superb for some scenes where there is lots of quick-fire dialog in which the subtitles have been pared down for clarity. There is also a video interview with Fellini’s assistant Dominique Delouche, as well as an audio interview with Dino de Laurentiis. This newly-mastered print has a formerly missing segment titled “man with a sack” which, depending on which interviewee you occupy, was deleted due to pressure from the Roman Catholic Church (Delouche) or for the sake of timing and continuity (de Laurentiis) . My only plight with the restoration is that the sound, remastered from the unusual 1957 negative, is sometimes harsh and tinny. But, that’s minor and easily forgiveable when compared to the comely visual restoration.

A classic that’s well worth owning and that shows Fellini at his best.

A prostitute whose life is a veritable inspect in the resilience of the human spirit is the subject of “Nights of Cabiria,” directed by Federico Fellini. Giulietta Masina stars as Cabiria, a gentle soul at heart who manages to hold a sure outlook even in the face of adversity. Experiences that would leave those of lesser mettle jaded she is seemingly able to ward off and emerge from intact, with a guarded optimism that nevertheless leaves her commence to whatever ills life may have in store for her next. But it is objective that optimism and her sense of joy in the simple things that makes her so endearing. She is proud, for example, of the fact that she owns her absorb house, hovel though it may be. Though not one to be easily duped, she is vulnerable to true persistence, which has in the past rendered her victim to those who would rob advantage of her, which is succinctly established in the opening scene of the film. Fellini’s film is a peruse of how obedient may succumb to improper, and yet aloof triumph in the ruin (though inaugurate to subjective interpretation) . It’s something of an examination of endurance; how many times can one be knocked down before finally being unable to stand succor up again. At the same time, however, it’s an example of how purity can prevail against even the utmost cruelty. There is a humanity manifested in Cabiria that somehow gives absolution, not only to her lifestyle, but to those who would willingly do her damage. And it is in that very same absolution that we accept a message of hope and redemption. As Cabiria, the slight Masina gives a performance that is nothing less than superlative, filled with nuance and expression. She has a face and a manner that assure an incredible depth of emotion, and Fellini captures every bit of it with his camera to perfection. It sometimes seems that she is a sprite merely masquerading as a woman; she has a light, almost ethereal presence, though at the same time she exhibits an earthy quality that gives her character such complexity, which removes any semblance of stereotype one may set to her character as a “lady of the evening.” It is a heartfelt, memorable portrayal that quite simply should have earned her an Oscar for Best Actress. Turning in a grand performance, also, is Francois Perier, as Oscar D’Onofrio, the stranger who comes into Cabiria’s life with an offer that ultimately seems too superior to be accurate. The supporting cast includes Amedeo Nazzari (Alberto Lazzari), Aldo Silvani (The Hypnotist), Franca Marzi (Wanda), Dorian Gray (Jessy), Mario Passante (Cripple in the “Miracle” sequence), Pina Gualandri (Matilda), Leo Cattozzo (Man with the sack) and Polidor (The Monk) . “Nights of Cabiria” is a film of unbelievable depth that is blooming as well in it’s humanity; Fellini has created images, both visually and emotionally, that are attractive and indelibly realized. Highlighted by the performance of Giulietta Masina, this is a film that begs to be embraced, one that will end with you long after the last shadow has passed from the hide into darkness. In Cabiria, Fellini somehow touches something eternal, for there is a lasting sense of innate goodness about her that simply cannot be forgotten. For seekers after wisdom and truth, this is definitely a film that must not be missed.

This volume concludes the series’ biggest cliffhanger from Vol. 7…somewhat. Onizuka is presented with a blueprint out of the last volume’s quandary, but takes a different path, leading Aizawa Miyabi having to top her most devious idea ever, with one that is her most risky.

To like a flash review what this series is about: Eikichi Onizuka, a ragged bike gang member, college karate champ, 22 years old-fashioned and a bachelor, has taken it upon himself to be the world’s greatest teacher. With minute or no qualifications, he somehow gets approved into a prestigious school, is assigned the worst class of delinquents and somehow has to control them.

Onizuka has to deal with various opponent-students during the course of the series: bully Aizawa Miyabi, tidy vivid Kikuchi, fatal genius Urumi Kanzaki, and fierce Kunio Murai.

Buy,Download, Or Stream GTO - Transformations! Click Here

This volume plays like three different stories: first, the conclusion to Miyabi’s plans from Vol. 7; second, Japanese idol Toroko’s company drawing the ire of local Yakuza, who latch on to Onizuka and bent cop Saejima’s loot of gold bars; and finally, a revisitation of Kunio Murai’s “Mother Complex,” this time with the opinion of marriage thrown around.

This is the darkest volume yet, drawing more than impartial the students into the intention. The tension rises between frail buddies Miyabi and Kanzaki; the latter decides to strike benefit on Onizuka’s behalf with a understanding that sends shivers down the spine for its cold-bloodedness. It’s level-headed the same level and mix of comedy and action as the previous GTOs, but with raised stakes.

Again, watching this series in Japanese is *necessary*, not only for the word jokes but because the record has comely famous differences from the English to the Japanese versionin terms of what’s going on. The Japanese vocal cast is far valid, and the vocal intonations better match the facial expressions; the storyline and what they say are far more risque and naughtier than the English dub as well.

Buy,Download, Or Stream GTO - Transformations! Click Here

If you’ve been collecting the series up to this point, I don’t need to impart you to consume it. If you haven’t, you’re best off having watched the previous volumes, and may struggle as to who’s unpleasant, beneficial, and why if this is your first GTO.

If you ever want to notice an anime with a tall sage line. Characters that can almost be sincere, this is the one! The storyline and the transition, humor and all other plots that reach into this reveal are excellently done. I highly recommend that this explain should be seen. But, to me you won’t earn a right flair for the character’s personalities in this one unless you turn off the english dubbed voices. Impartial place the subtitles on, trust me its distinguished better. The Japanese Onizuka sounds sooo considerable funnier. Highly recommended!!! It’s a keeper. (Refering to the entire series)

As a single mother of a 7-year-old the viewability of programming aimed at children is a priority for me, and as a result, I utilize most of her viewing time seated legal beside her. I’d always been a fan of The Power Rangers series for their Crayola-colored costumes and the easy plan their comradery translated to their viewing audience. Series casting changes notwithstanding, when this movie made its device to video I purchased a copy for our home viewing collection. This one gets a grade B+ for the palatable manner in which it uses grade school lessons to entertain young children. The soundtrack is elegant super, too.

I was a enormous fan of the Power Rangers when this movie was released into theaters, so you can bet I went out and saw it. However, as powerful as I enjoyed it, I eventually felt that I had outgrown the Power Rangers. For a while, I impartial opinion they were plainly unimaginative. However, my enjoyment for the laughably awful acting and writing in the television prove made me realize how proper the Recent series truly was. Only the modern series was what I watched. This movie is actually somewhat well-written compared to the series, and takes location in somewhat of an alternate universe. Many differences between the movie and television series are noticeable.

-Zordon, Alpha-5, and the exclaim center witness very different. The Sing Center is remarkable larger and more detailed.

-Unlike in the television series, the rangers have a spacious power coin of their power on the chest of their tights.

-Tommy’s power is “White Tiger” instead of “Tigerzord.”

Buy,Download, Or Stream Mighty Morphin Power Rangers - The Movie! Click Here

-The helmets are bigger and bulkier. The tights peek like they are made of leather rather than cloth.

-Mordant, the pig warrior who appeared with Goldar as Lord Zedd’s henchmen, was never featured in the TV series.

-The anecdote of how the Rangers lost their powers and received their Ninja powers is told differently from the plan it is told in the television series. Also, in the series, the Ninja Rangers have masks that screen their entire face, unlike here.

-A couple of gadgets that were never old-fashioned in the series are mature here: Rocky’s helmet has a scope built into it and Aisha’s helmet has headlights built into the eyes.

-Weapons previously unused on the tv series are here, and Power Weapons/Blade Blasters are ignored. Billy has a original sword, the Stega Stinger, and Kimberly has a Teach Whip.

-Goldar, Rita, and Zedd have a few vital alterations in appearance.

-Putties are nowhere to be seen, instead they acquire on Ooze Children and Tenga Warriors as standard enemies.

The movie is also different from your typical Power Rangers TV episode. It’s apt that Zedd and Rita are in the movie, but they ally with the film’s main villain, Ivan Ooze, after freeing him from imprisonment in an egg, and he has got to be the nasiest villain they ever fought. He even turns against the usual contaminated of Zedd and Rita and imprisons them inside of a snowglobe! The Rangers go through a lot more than objective, fight wussie monsters, peril fighting sincere monster, monster grows, Drawl Megazord owns. For starters, there is no Explain Megazord. Instead, there is the Ninja Megazord (Pink Crane, Shadowy Frog, Yellow Hold, Blue Wolf, and Red Ape) and the Ninja Megafalconzord, which adds on the White Falcon. The acting is unruffled sub-par, but what do you request? I like the movie because it gives fans a taste of a slightly different universe than what was frail before. If you are young and getting into the GOD-AWFUL fresh breeds of Power Rangers (Mystic Force? ) then give this a try and ogle what you’ve been missing. If you liked any of the shows as a child, give this a try as well. If you deem the Power Rangers are unprejudiced tedious insensible, then DON’T.

Also, I have noticed that most all major critics gave this movie unpleasant reviews. However, there is a reason for that. They are actually taking the movie SERIOUSLY. Whatever you do, don’t buy this film seriously, if you are an adult it is heavenly great meant to be taken as a joke. Only a kid between the ages of 4 and 7 would buy it seriously and savor it.

Finally, the much-loved version of Gogol’s Taras Bulba has near to DVD. This tall, large-scale production manages to entertain with spacious action sequences while intelligent the viewer by telling the epic of founded in savor.

Taras Bulba, played by Brynner, is a grand Cossack leader who fights with the Polish who continue to engage more and more Cossack territory. His young son, Andrei, played by Curtis, is the only thing he loves as noteworthy as he does his people and his country. But when Curtis falls in esteem with a Polish girl, and sides with the Polish, he sets the stage for conflict and tragedy.

Bulba loves his son, his people, his diagram of life, and his country. Andrei loves his father, but also loves the Polish girl. In the midst of a big adventure anecdote, Taras Bulba manages to be a anecdote about fancy, and the spacious sacrifices and challenges like causes us to execute.

This is a gargantuan movie, and very powerful deserving of a high-quality DVD release.

Taras Bulba could have been a very ample film - possibly even a broad one. But Hollywood values killed any chance of that. Instead, we have a reasonably savory mess of a movie with two outstanding ingredients that rise above the rest - Franz Waxman’s rousingly inventive music and a suitably over the top performance by Yul Brynner. As the title character, Brynner looks every toddle a Cossack - swaggering and posing like a macho peacock, delivering his lines with that growling accent, and wearing his costumes as though he had lived in them all his life. Brynner was a hugely undervalued actor - a larger than life performer whose presence saved many a film. But the odds were really against him here.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Taras Bulba! Click Here

Instead of focusing on Brynner, the film makes Tony Curtis, as his son, the central character. Curtis makes absolutely no pain to see like a Cossack so it is not surprising that he doesn’t act like one either. While the rest of the Cossacks are swarthy, plump, scalplocked he-men, the sons of Taras Bulba ogle more like a couple of surfers who have wandered in from the film next door. Worse calm is Curtis’s treasure interest - the enemy girl he falls in cherish and betrays the Cossack Brotherhood for. She is played with wan listlessness by Christine Kaufmann in a performance so wooden it’s a wonder Curtis didn’t secure splinters in their appreciate scenes. Smooth, in valid life, he must have fancied her because he left Janet Leigh to marry her.

Even with its insipid like anecdote, Taras Bulba could mild have achieved greatness through sheer spectacle. The costume department certainly did their bit - although some of the Polish uniforms are needlessly naff. The music thunders and roars - except for the obligatory treasure song sung by an oversweetened choir over the equally obligatory sixties montage sequence. Filming in Argentina may have been a valid fiscal decision, but it doesn’t wait on the observe of the film - pampas are not steppes. Calm, there are some gripping and effective sequences, notably the Lope To Dubno during which Brynner’s followers grow from a handful to an army. The battles scenes are as inviting as the Polish university scenes are slow. Sometimes the scale of the enterprise impresses. But you slay up wanting to like the film more than you do.

Perhaps the film’s perilous tone is best illustrated by a post-production chronicle. At a pre-release screening, director J. Lee Thompson supposedly turned to Yul Brynner and said: “I detached don’t explore why you had to shoot Tony.”

I’m not obvious we’re all seeing the same movie here. One comment I hold hearing is that the actresses did not execute well, and I cannot comprehend it. Ziyi Zhang especially gave one of the best performances I have seen in years, at least. Fair eye at her physically shaking during her last scene with Ken Watanabe. This complete giving over to the emotion of the character is nearly unsurpassed in anything I’ve seen in years, and I’m a big cinemaphile. That’s not to mention the flawless map she carried the postures and demeanor of the child star that played her young self through-out, giving a sense of consistency that I have almost never seen done this well. It’s early impossible to remember that these two actresses are not really the same person with the map their performances meshed. So, maybe it’s the reserved nature of Asian women, and the dualing of this nature with a sense of individuality and self-expression that people are interpreting as “not idea the character”?

All I can say is, the cinematography and settings are shapely, as are the actresses (and what a stellar cast!), the performances are grand (maybe the bar has been lowered so powerful lately that the degree of skill brought to the mask here is more than some people can handle) . That’s the only reason I can offer for the dreadful reactions I have heard.

The account is appealing, and very realistic in terms of human nature. The romance is extraordinary. There are flashes of humor and some of the script is pure poetry (and as a poet you can contain me on that!) I could go on all day, but let me unbiased say this.

The movie is awesome, and the time flew by for me. It is not the over-wrought heart-rending sap that some may want it to be, but it is very honest to the draw most people behave, and especially in the reserved manner of the Japanese. In my book everyone interested in this deserves a ample round of kudos, and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys exquisite things, and incredibly realized films.

Memoirs of a Geisha is a exquisite movie. I haven’t read the book, but now wish I had. The movie is cessation to 2 1/2 hours long, but the epic and scenery are so engaging, it seems so considerable quicker. The costumes are astonishing and it’s no wonder they are nominated for Oscars.

It tells the fable of a runt girl called Chiyo who along with her older sister, is sold by their father who has no money. The people who bought her, want to design her a geisha so she goes off to school but brings disgrace to herself and therefore they beget her their slave. Upon chance, she meets a kind man who buys her a sweet cherry ice cone. She never forgets him and sees him again by chance some years later. Now she has hope and learns again (in a wreck course) how to be a geisha and her recent name is Sayuri.

The yarn that unfolds from there has ups and downs but the ending is so fascinating that of course I cried my head off. The setting is comely and it made me want to go and visit Japan. The music too is splendid and I hope they do fetch some Oscars next week because it’s a very deserving movie. There is also a astronomical performance by an actress called Li Gong who plays ‘Queen Bitch’ Hatsumomo and witness for a tiny role played by Ted Levine who we normally gaze in a humorous role as Captain Leland Stottlemeyer in Monk.

Beautiful travel that you absolutely have to peek. (Especially on the astronomical cloak if you calm can) .

I worship this cartoon! It’s so laughable, even by adult standards. I also savor it because it has virtually no “potty humor”, so parents can feel confident in letting their kids salvage into it. It doesn’t reach accross as “educational”, but does handle things like friendship, loyalty, courage, spy pressure, self treasure, and other such virtues. On TV it’s rated Y7, probably because some younger kids might earn some of the imaginary friends a minute scary looking, particularly the “Extremesaurs”, aka the imaginary friends created by “jerky teenage boys”, but they don’t execute very many apperances. But even if some of the friends are “monsters”, you can’t get any funnier or nicer, other than maybe in puppet beget. =)

The two disk DVD state comes in a standard plasic DVD case with a cardboard slipcover. Nice quality. The stock photo is of the slipcover. The case itself has scenes from the episode Store Wars. The DVD includes all 12 episodes and the 90 microscopic pilot “movie”. The episodes are as follows-

And that objective about does it! I have no regrets in getting this in the least, and now scrutinize forward to season 2 being released. I hope to be among the first in line to glean that one, too! =)

Ok, ok…I know this is a cartoon series, but I must say that I glean it hilarious! I am 31, and my son is soon to be 6. He and I explore this point to together every weeknight at 7pm, and it doesn’t matter that we’ve seen the episodes several times! They are objective as humorous each time! Also - if you have a child, watching them laugh at the characters is worth the brand alone! The expose has jokes and distinct eye gags that are geared towards adults….yet it has ‘childish’ humor and moralistic storylines. You wouldn’t assume that your child could learn anything from this exhibit, but they do! Friendship, honesty, being expedient, diligence…..it’s all here, along with fart jokes, fast-talking Goo, and the self-centered Bloo. Trust me- if you like cartoons AT ALL, you will treasure this series!

When I heard the memoir line for Before Sunrise, a slacker American played by Ethan Hawke falls in fancy in Europe with Julie Delpy, I rolled my eyes. But this is a thoughftul and compelling movie that broke down my skeptical and cynical wall. First, the movie takes us through the awkward stages of two people going from being perfect strangers to removing their maintain walls and falling in fancy in a intention that is never sappy. Using this falling-in-love motif, the director/writer Richard Linklater addresses several profound themes: the nature of time, the conflict between cynicism and romance, the obsession with death, the shortcomings of “adulthood.” The dialogue between Hawke and Delpy is philosophical but never too abstract; it seems to stem from their well-drawn characters. I instruct there’s a parallel between the breaking down of my bear cynicism and the characters’. They have been wound by life, have effect up their walls, and, through their discussions, they have gradually removed those walls so that by the movie’s waste you assume it’s a crime if they don’t descend in esteem and live happily ever after. But the movie is more complex than a satisfied ending. The movie forces you to ask if their cherish would survive if removed from the brief ecstasy of their single day (and night) together. Is the brevity the cause of their ecstasy? Would a life of marriage disintigrate into the mundane? The characters struggle with these questions in what is my common romantic movie.

At first, I was surprised I was even watching this movie. I’m older now. Been married for 20 years. Not really into “chick flicks” but something about the dialog between these two young people caught my attention when I surfed into this movie. These kids were truly something. The young lady was everything I would want my daughter to be. Quick-witted, teach, blooming, impartial, independent and sensible. She was a lot of fun to listen to. The boy was favorable and really seemed to care for this girl. I hope my sons treat the women they tumble in cherish with with the same respect. Why would a middle age guy like me like this movie? I judge it took me assist to a time where I remember feeling the magic and excitment from meeting someone for the first time. It was pleasing nice to feel this again for a short time. I guess I forgotten how it felt to be so intrigued by someone that nothing else in the world mattered. It was rare to have this feeling and something that we will all remember when it does happen….or something we would want to experience again. It’s like a gift. It reminded me of that Neil Young song Like a Hurricane…..”…that magic moment accurate before you kissed my lips, time unprejudiced slips….”. I hope I remeber the words upright. This is truly an expedient movie with colossal dialog. A legal gem in a world of unfriendly, corny movies minus the breast shots and gratuitous sex scenes. None of that in this movie. Honest a very impartial and natural progression in a short-term relationship that both charactures really delight in.

This is unprejudiced a very suitable movie. Perhaps one of the best I have ever seen. Not clear why it’s rated “R”. Perhaps some of the language but I have heard worse in my son’s Jr. High School.

Watch this movie and experience a amazing feeling that you probably haven’t experienced in years or maybe never experienced but want to. It makes this guy relish the woman that I have a puny bit more than I did.

Disaster movies from this era are, in general, fairly forgettable, but “The Last Voyage” rises above the norm in several ways. The stars of this film are well cast with Robert Stack in radiant manufacture as the mettlesome husband out to effect his wife, George Sanders excelling as Captain Robert Adams, and Dorothy Malone doing a generally great (though occasionally over the top) job as the imperiled heroine. Stack and Malone had worked together before, and have an profitable onscreen chemistry. While football star turned actor Woody Strode does an salubrious job as a selfless crewman, the downside to the casting was Tammy Marihugh who played the daughter of Stack and Malone, and who is one of the most shrill and annoying child actors in memory. I gave this film four stars, and a noble allotment of the reason it didn’t obtain five was due to that one part of casting.

The accurate star of the film, of course, was the “S.S. Claridon” which sank due to a fire, boiler explosion, and broken-down bulkheads. Most movies from the 1960s have abominable special effects, but “The Last Voyage” is different because there are no steady special effects here. The steady star of the film turns out to be no other than the splendid art deco French Line ship, the “Ile de France,” a ship more famed than most people realize. The “Ile de France” was the first ocean liner completed after world war one, and served through many years of service on the Atlantic (including as a troop transport during world war two.) Her most eminent accomplishment, though, was coming to the support of the “Andrea Doria” which sank in 1956: “Ile de France” was key to the rescue operation, but was retired and this film was made fair four years later.

The film was shot onboard the ship, which is why the sets examine so realistic and why the sinking is so realistic (she was actually sunk for the film.) While the region itself is a bit contrived (really, an acetylene delivery by rowboat? ) the record is generally well done and the shots of the ship are gorgeous, although the mechanics of the funnel collapse might be questioned by marine architects.

I recommend the film as an above average suspense drama, and especially for the magnificent shots of a resplendent liner in her final days.

This movie is one of the least known and underrated pains films of all time. I watched this for the first time support when I was 8 on the matinee movie. I was sick at home with the flu and was so overjoyed I didnt have to eye soaps! Yeccchh! When I saw this on AMC not too long ago I was amazed to seek how the movie has held up all these years. The casting is great- first rate. George Sanders plays a solid captain and uses fair the proper dramatic pauses at the correct time. Edmund O’Brien (who is probably the greatest character actor of all time) is the blustery and defiant chief who has his ravishing piece of run-ins with the captain. All the other casting is astronomical as well and the film builds in suspense throughout. I especially like how the movie draws the viewer in immediatly with the opening shot of the captain holding a label which simply says “fire in the engine rooom.” This is a lickety-split paced and well crafted movie that is a delight to any distress film buff. I especially like the scenes when the ships officers are peppering the captain with questions and you can gape the captain slowly losing his confidence in his convey (and in his ship) . Highly recommended.
